The island offers pristine waters for swimming and snorkelling. During your visit, you’ll also discover stunning beaches and unique landscapes.
Remember to book your ferry ticket in advance. Prices start at around £13 per person for a round trip. Boats usually run several times a day, with the first departing at 10:00 in summer and 11:00 in winter.
Since 2019, access to Lobos Island has been limited to protect its natural spaces. You’ll need a free permit, which you can book up to five days before your visit. This permit allows you to stay on the island for four hours. Most tour companies will arrange this for you if you book with them.
While exploring, you can enjoy a meal at the island’s only restaurant. Don’t forget to bring water, sun cream, and comfortable shoes to walk around this beautiful spot.
2. Enjoy Watersports on Flag Beach
Flag Beach is a top spot for water activities in Corralejo. It’s famous for its steady winds, perfect for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
Several watersports schools are located on the beach. They offer lessons for beginners and equipment hire for more experienced riders. If you’re new to these sports, don’t worry. The instructors are friendly and patient. They’ll have you up and riding in no time.
For a gentler experience, try stand-up paddleboarding. It’s a great way to explore the coastline and get a workout.

Remember to book your lessons in advance, especially during peak season. The schools can get quite busy.

You’ll find a unique blend of landscapes here. Golden sand dunes stretch as far as the eye can see, meeting the deep blue Atlantic Ocean. It’s a sight that will take your breath away.
Bring your camera to capture the dunes’ ever-changing colours. The sand shifts from golden to amber to rose as the sun moves across the sky.
The park is easy to access by car. Follow the FV1a road, which cuts right through it. You can park a car virtually anywhere along the road, where you can stop and explore.
Don’t forget your swimsuit! The park boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. Swim in the crystal-clear waters or simply relax on the soft sand.
For the adventurous, try windsurfing or kitesurfing. The constant winds make this spot perfect for water sports enthusiasts.
5. Relax on Grandes Playas

Watch for local fishermen bringing in their catch of the day. You might even spot some playful dolphins in the distance if you are lucky. You can try some of the catch at the restaurant on the harbour, which is run by the fishermen’s cooperative.
At the harbour, you can book boat trips to nearby islands or beaches. It’s also a perfect spot for taking photos of the beautiful coastline.

As you wander through the market stalls, you’ll encounter various goods. Look out for handmade crafts, local produce, and unique souvenirs to take home.
It’s an excellent opportunity to pick up holiday souveniers or gifts for friends and family. You might even find some tasty local treats to sample.
The market offers a nice mix of shopping and sightseeing. After browsing the stalls, you can pop into the permanent shops in the centre or grab a bite at one of the cafes.
Remember to bring cash, as some smaller vendors might not accept cards. And don’t be shy to practice your bargaining skills – it’s all part of the market experience!
9. Hike to Popcorn Beach or a Volcano
Popcorn Beach
Fancy a unique beach experience? Head to Popcorn Beach near Corralejo. This special spot gets its name from the small white coral fragments that look like popcorn scattered across the sand.
To get there, you’ll need to hike from Corralejo. The walk takes about an hour each way, so make sure you’re prepared with good shoes, water, and sun protection.
The trail follows the coastline, offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. As you walk, you’ll pass other small beaches and rocky coves.
When you arrive, you’ll be amazed by the unusual ‘popcorn’ covering the beach. These are pieces of coral and volcanic rock shaped by the sea over time. Remember to leave the beach as you found it – don’t take any ‘popcorn’ home.
Volcano Calderón Hondo
Calderón Hondo is a stunning volcanic crater located near the village of Lajares, approximately 6 kilometers southwest of Corralejo. The hike to this natural wonder is relatively easy and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
The crater is 278 meters above sea level, about 70 meters deep, and 300 meters in diameter. The volcano is part of the natural park Parque Natural de Corralejo, which protects the region’s unique geological formations and diverse flora and fauna.
If you do not want to hike the whole way, you can catch the No. 8 bus to Lajares (get off by the football ground) and walk from there.
A colony of friendly barbary ground squirrels lives at the top. They always appreciate water and food (apple pieces, nuts, etc.).
10. Discover Acua Water Park
Acua Water Park is the only water park in Fuerteventura, located in the heart of Corralejo. It’s a great spot to cool off and have some fun in the sun.
The park covers over 25,000 square metres and offers more than 14 attractions suitable for all ages. Its thrilling slides include the Splash Race Track, Family Slide, and Dark Cave.
For adrenaline seekers, there are two KamiKaze slides where you can reach speeds up to 30 km/h. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, float along the Lazy River or enjoy the Fast River.
Acua Water Park is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm during summer. However, opening hours may be more limited in winter, so it’s best to check beforehand.
Tickets can be bought at the park entrance or online. Various options are available, including single-day tickets and family passes.
The park also offers a children’s club, entertainment services, and a range of food options. It’s a fantastic place for a family day out or a fun break from the beach.
11. Experience Corralejo Nightlife
Corralejo comes alive after dark with its vibrant nightlife scene. From laid-back bars to lively clubs, you’ll find plenty of options to suit your mood.
Start your evening at one of the many beach bars along the coast. Sip cocktails and watch the sunset over the ocean. It’s a perfect way to ease into the night.
As the evening progresses, head to the main strip where you’ll discover a variety of pubs and clubs. Live music venues are popular, offering everything from rock to reggae. My particular favourite is the Rock Island Bar.
Don’t miss Waikiki Beach Club, a hotspot for locals and tourists alike. It’s known for its energetic atmosphere and great DJ sets. You can dance the night away or relax on the terrace with a drink.
Remember, the nightlife in Corralejo tends to start late. Many places don’t get busy until after 11 pm, so pace yourself and enjoy the Spanish way of life.
12. A Bonus in November
If you happen to be in Corralejo in November (usually the middle of the month), you may catch the amazing annual International Kite Festival, which now takes place near the two hotels near Flag Beach. It is the most colourful event of the year.
There are hundreds of huge 3D kites, and kiters come from all over the world. It is an absolute must-see event, particularly for children (and adults, as I love it too).

Corralejo offers a range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and preferences. You’ll find everything from luxury resorts to budget-friendly hotels.
For a luxurious stay, consider the Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa. This adults-only resort boasts stunning sea views and top-notch amenities.
If you’re looking for a boutique experience, the H10 Ocean Dreams Hotel might be perfect. It’s another adults-only option with a more intimate feel.
For mid-range budgets, the Barcelo Corralejo Bay offers comfortable rooms and a great location near the beach.

There are beach bars where you can grab a drink or snack. The beach can get busy, but it’s big enough that you can always find a quiet spot.
Corralejo Dune Beaches
The Corralejo Dunes Natural Park is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. These beaches stretch for miles and have soft white sand and crystal-clear water.
You’ll feel like you’re in a desert meeting the sea. The dunes provide a stunning backdrop for your beach day. It’s less crowded than the town beaches so you can enjoy more peace and quiet.
Be sure to bring water and snacks, as there aren’t many facilities here. The beaches are perfect for long walks, sunbathing, and swimming. Look for the local wildlife, including birds, lizards, and perhaps even a praying mantis, which I saw once.
